Bill of Rights
This statement of rights was developed by the staff and students of the Leary School programs who share a common commitment to maintaining and creating a safe and productive school community.
To meet this goal, the staff of the Leary School programs affirms the following student rights:
- The right to be treated with dignity and respect;
- The right to the best possible education in an environment conducive to learning;
- The right to individualized education;
- The right to encouragement and support in achieving each student's individual goals;
- The right to participate in planning or selecting learning activities in which the student participates;
- The right to expect confidentiality within prescribed guidelines of safety and interest;
- The right to expect honest, predictable interactions; and
- The right to an objective and reasonable code of student conduct and a safe, cooperative environment.
In cooperation with these affirmations, the students of Leary School resolve the following:
- That staff will be treated with the same level of dignity and respect offered by them;
- That students will actively and constructively participate in the group process;
- That students will accept that flexibility and individuality will mean different approaches for different students;
- The students will maintain a sincere commitment to work toward establishing and achieving personal goals;
- That students will be a part of creating and maintaining a safe, orderly school environment by upholding all school rules and policies;
- That students will understand and acknowledge the rights of confidentiality and the limits of confidentiality;
- That students will be honest with each other; and
- That students will work together with staff to achieve the goal of a cooperative and productive school community.
