Summer 2008
Leary School Job Site, Fairfax County
Page 3
During
the second semester of this school year, Leary School JobSite staff and students
were able to finish construction on the property at 6451 Holyoke Drive. This home
is the fourth new home construction on Holyoke Drive; in addition, we also completed
a large renovation project next door to this newest home. As a result of new zoning
restrictions, the homes that are being constructed on this street are only 20 feet
wide.
This home has three bedrooms, two and a half baths with a “rough-in” for a full bath
in the basement. This will allow the owners to expand this area if, in the future,
they want to. Hook ups for a washer and dryer will also be located in the basement.
The main floor will contain a living room, dining room, family room and, with the
exception of the kitchen and the foyer (which will be hardwood), all areas will be
carpeted. There is recessed lighting on the porch and each room has the ability to
have ceiling fans. There is a “nook” sitting room attached to the master bedroom.
On Friday, June 6th, an open house and dedication for this project was held. We were
pleased to have local government representatives as well as Fairfax County School
representatives come to see this house. We were also pleased to have the staff and
students from the Leary School JobSite, Loudoun County come as a group to see our
work. Students were available to show visitors through the house and were able to
describe the work that had been done.
In the fall, we will begin work on the lot next to this newest project. This house
will be similar to the house above with some modifications. The kitchen, dining room
and family room will be larger and there will be a walk up basement.
Finally, four JobSite students finished their secondary schooling in June. Genaya
Davis and Nazarene Watkins received their high school diplomas from Prince George’s
County Public Schools; John Barnett completed his secondary schooling through Loudoun
County Public Schools and D’Lonte Fuller finished his schooling through Falls Church
City Public Schools. We wish all four the best of luck as they transition from the “World
of school” to the “World of work”.
