Leary
School held its annual graduation ceremony on Monday, June 10th, at the amphitheater
of Mason District Park in Annandale, Virginia. The class of 2002 was the largest
class for the Leary School programs in recent memory with 20 students completing
their secondary schooling. These young men and women were all presented certificates,
along with congratulatory letters from area notables, including Governor Glendening
of Maryland, Senator Warner of Virginia, and Mayor Anthony Williams of the District
of Columbia. Those who successfully completed their high school requirements also
received their high school diplomas. The students who graduated included:

CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS!!
In addition, students from both campuses were named as their program's Student of
the Year. From the Prince George's County campus, Antoine Carter was named Student
of the Year while Greg Raspberry was named Senior of the Year and Angela Berrian
was named as the Most Improved Student.
From the Virginia campus, Quante Coleman was named as the Elementary Student of the
Year and Zakat Norris was named as the Secondary Student of the Year.
Ms. Brancheau, Program Director at Leary School, Prince George's County, and Ms.
Creo, Director of Programs for Lincolnia Educational Foundation, Inc. gave the graduation
address and offered the exiting students a blueprint for success and encouraged them
to be "peacemakers" in their communities and homes. The graduates were reminded that,
as Leary School students, they have been taught how to solve problems verbally, how
to generate solutions and how to resolve conflicts. Ms. Brancheau and Ms. Creo encouraged
these students, along with all the students, to use these skills in their daily lives.
Following this ceremony, the graduates and their families shared a picnic lunch with
staff from both campuses and several of the representatives from the various referring
agencies in the pavilion at the park.
