Physical Education and Outdoor Education
Physical Education. A specialized and individualized physical education program is developed for each student. Most students will participate in physical education on a weekly basis with their intact group. Team sports, physical conditioning, health and nutrition, and recreation are targeted areas for instruction and skill development. Additionally, the Leary School programs' physical education program have adopted the objectives of the President's Physical Fitness program into the curriculum. Outdoor Education. The Leary School programs promote outdoor education. Activities are provided and designed to provide interested students with an opportunity to experience recreation, leisure, adventure, and survival activities in a natural environment. From day hikes, horseback riding, biking and boating to week long primitive camping and overnight fishing trips, from the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian Trail and Shenandoah River, students may participate in a variety of outdoor experiences. |
