Career Development Program
The Career Development program at all Leary School programs is aimed at providing beneficial and quality career preparation for all students.
The following objectives reflect the primary goals of the program:
- To provide students with career preparation;
- To provide identified students with supervised work experience, both paid and unpaid, in community placements; and
- To foster work adjustment skills, including: work habits, attitudes, and interpersonal skills necessary for succeeding in future training and/or employment situations in accordance with the student's Individualized Transition Plan.
The Career Development program is comprised of the components briefly described below.
- The Woodworking Program (offered at the Virginia site). A hands-on program of instruction designed for specific skill development, incorporating individualized woodworking projects.
- JobSite Program (offered through the Leary School of Virginia; Leary School JobSite, Loudoun County and Leary School JobSite, Brandywine). These job site programs are designed to offer selected students off-campus, hands-on experience in all phases of the building trades, culminating in the construction of residential homes. These programs can be viewed through their own link on the homepage of this web site.
- Work Experience. This program is geared towards placing students in a variety of jobs and internships, both on and off campus, according to their level of career maturity, social skills and interests, and availability of placements. The work experience program functions in tandem with the student's transition plan.
