Leary School of Virginia

Spring has finally arrived and the students and staff at the Virginia campus are enjoying the change of weather. Our younger students are eagerly trying out our new tire climbers and basking in the long overdue mild spring breezes.

Our undefeated varsity basketball team, ably coached by Forman Thompson has developed a very active fan club among the student body and their support has been an additional motivator for our team. GO LEARY SCHOOL KNIGHTS!

As we draw to the close of another school year, we can reflect on many accomplishments. Our job placement program continues to expand its available positions and our jobsite program is in the middle of a two year project and will complete a home with a two-story front porch at the end of next year.

The Junior Great Books reading program has yielded positive results and will be continued next year. Our school wide, learning-based themes, such as States' Day, Nations' Day, and the Science Fair reflect many weeks of group learning and research culminating in many creative presentations. Our upcoming Shakespeare celebration planned for April 23 will celebrate the "Bard's" birthday with an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, as well as jousting competitions and classroom celebrations.

The Art Therapy program is moving forward with plans for a permanent labyrinth project on school grounds; we will be reporting more about this project in the next Perspective.

The safety and security of our students and staff continues to be our priority. We have completed our "shelter in place" safety drill and have compiled the recommended supplies to be prepared in the event that the nation goes into a Code Red and we are advised to shelter in place.
