Year in Review

Highlights of the past year include:
  • Seven students completed their secondary schooling and another fifty were honored with certificates for attendance, academic achievement, and personal recognition at June 2001 ceremonies. Four students were honored as they made plans to return to less restrictive settings.

  • Both campuses held fund raising events, including yard sales and a bazaar (at the Virginia location) that benefited victims of the September 11th attacks.

  • Both campuses increased their individualization of behavioral interventions and reduced the need for physical interventions.

  • Leary School Job Site completed a second single family home on Holyoke Drive that was dedicated and sold in June. A major renovation project was begun in September on this same street, with an anticipated completion date of June 2002.

  • Virginia and Maryland approvals and full accreditation from respective state departments of education were maintained.

  • Increased part time job opportunities through job placement program for students at both campuses. Placements included boat building, fast food, retail, health care and libraries.

  • Staff and students at the Prince George's County campus put together a seven foot wide American flag, made up of patches of drawings and positive thoughts concerning the September 11 attacks that will be presented to the Oxon Hill Fire Department tree in remembrance of the September 11th victims.
